HTM Week Webinar: Adding to the Toolbox – Tips to Grow into a Better Leader

May 22, 2024 from 2:00-3:00pm
Presenter:
  • Greg Czajka, Advocate Health

Great leadership doesn’t occur overnight – it takes years to cultivate, and we pick up bits and pieces along the way. Some of these ideas are learned from a mentor, a formal class, through osmosis while on the job or even through the failure of others (what not to do)! One of my mentors taught me that every new tactic you learn is a tool you added to your toolbox. Your toolbox can be as big as you want, and you should continually add to it to advance your own development. The goal of this course is to share some of the tools I picked up along my journey, so you don’t have to learn them the hard way.

Learn to “Trust” Again Zero Trust, Network Management and Identity Access

Recorded in July 2023
Presenters:
  • Ty Greenhalgh, Industry Principal, Healthcare – Medigate by Claroty
  • Ross Sweetzir, Global Healthcare Solutions Architect - Cisco

Earlier this year the HHS provided expansive detail to the Health Industry Cybersecurity Practices (HICP) for Medical Device Security.  President Biden’s Executive Order to Improve the Nations Cybersecurity called on Zero Trust or Least Privilege network communications to be implemented.  HICP also identifies Zero Trust/Least Privilege as a Best Practice.

In this series the common thread is that IT centric security approaches applied to connected medical devices without modification fail.   Network Management is no exception. Pitfalls, roadblocks and project delays await organizations that incorrectly analyze and manage the network traffic of medical devices.

Cisco and Medigate have collaborated to provide unprecedented visibility and control over network connected medical devices. Medigate delivers fully attributed device profiles, intelligence and auto-suggested network segmentation in a format that allows Cisco to quickly deploy or adapt network security policies giving the IT team greater cyber resilience.

While it may not always be the favorite part of a technician’s job, everyone in healthcare technology management (HTM) today has the critical responsibility to enter complete and accurate data into their CMMS. This data is needed to meet regulatory requirements, make smart staffing decisions, ensure the equipment is safe and reliable, protect the hospital from cyber threats, and help HTM departments get their work done efficiently and cost-effectively. Recognizing the importance of this skill in today’s hospitals, BMET educators have incorporated it into their curriculum and are now teaching students how to properly enter data into a CMMS and why it’s important. Learn from these BMET educators how you can teach your technicians what information they should be entering into the CMMS and how to keep it “clean.”

HTMLive! Best Practices in PM Compliance A Review of AAMI's new PM Guide

Recorded on October 12, 2021
Presenters:
  • Heidi Horn - Heidi Horn HTM Consulting LLC
  • Blake Collins - Christianacare
  • Barbara Maguire - ISS Solutions Geisinger

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) reasserted its requirement a few years ago that ALL scheduled maintenance must be completed in accordance with the manufacturer’s required maintenance intervals. To this day, healthcare technology management (HTM) professionals are still debating the interpretation of this standard. Is 100% completion rate the same as completing 100% of the scheduled planned maintenance (PM) activities? Are there allowable exceptions to 100% completion and, if so, what are they? Can a PM be counted as completed even if the PM was not performed? Can PMs completed after their PM Due Date still be counted in the completion rate? This webinar will provide some additional definitions, processes, and best practices to help HTM departments adhere to the CMS PM completion requirements, as well as recommendations for how to ensure PM “compliance” in various situations.
