TJC Updates PM 'Grace Period' Guidance Presented at Exchange
Posted June 19, 2019
During an update by The Joint Commission (TJC) during the AAMI Exchange in Cleveland, OH, Herman A. McKenzie, acting director of TJC's Department of Engineering, provided information that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services was agreeable toward a less rigid “grace period” for minimum and maximum times between completing preventive maintenance inspections that was based on NFPA 72-2010 (i.e., the 2010 edition of National Fire Protection Agency standard 72, section 3.3.106 Frequency).
After conferring with his TJC colleagues in Accreditation and Certification Operations following the Exchange, McKenzie reported to AAMI that TJC surveyors will continue to review maintenance inspection and testing intervals in accordance with information appearing in the Environment of Care chapter of TJC Accreditation Manual.
Therefore, TJC-accredited facilities should continue to follow established guidelines.
