The TMC has created numerous new career and technical resources for professionals who manage and service medical technology and has undertaken several major projects to advance the field. What follows are highlights of that work:

BEST PRACTICES

Best Practices—Every issue of AAMI’s journal, BI&T, features a best practice case study selected by the TMC. And each year, one case study is recognized with the TMC’s Best Practices Award at AAMI’s Annual Conference.

Sharing Best Practices—The AAMI website now features best practices, policies, job descriptions, forms, and other resources so you don't have to recreate the wheel.

Benchmarking—A new online self-assessment survey has been developed that over time will enable clinical engineering departments to assess their performance, policies, and procedures against others in the field and develop best practices.

CAREER RESOURCES

Employment Survey—Details of AAMI’s employment/salary survey are featured in AAMI’s journal.

Job Listings—AAMI’s online Career Center now offers free resume postings to AAMI members and a comprehensive listing of job opportunities available in the field.

Career Moves—AAMI’s top career-related articles have been have been compiled onto one CD, which is available here.

Job Fair—A Job Fair at AAMI’s Annual Conference helps connect qualified candidates with employers.

BMET Study GuideThis CD is designed to help you prepare for a BMET certification exam, help identify your strengths and weaknesses, and address any gaps in your knowledge.

TOOLS & RESOURCES

Biomed-Nursing Relationships—The TMC has teamed up with nursing associations to produce two special magazines that explore issues of mutual interest to nurses and biomeds. The publications, mailed to all AAMI members, are also available at the AAMI Store.

Other Special Publications—Several specialized magazines have been published and mailed to all AAMI members on topics such as sterilization, information technology, dialysis, and the future of medical technology.

Online Resource CenterAAMI’s journal, BI&T, is now online and searchable, providing immediate access to thousands of archived articles and other resources.

JOINT COMMISSION GUIDANCE

JC Discussion Group—This online forum enables AAMI members to discuss Joint Commission-related issues, raise questions with colleagues, and obtain important JC resources.

Joint Commission News & Views—This regular column in AAMI’s journal, BI&T, focuses on timely and practical issues about Joint Commission matters.

Access to the Joint Commission—A top JC expert attends AAMI's Annual Conference each year to brief attendees about the latest news from the JC and answer questions.

IT RESOURCES

Collaboration—The TMC has teamed up with two national organizations to pool resources and develop IT best practices and guidance documents. Find out more here.

IT Guidance—The TMC has produced three editions of a special magazine, IT Horizons, which features practical IT-related articles of interest affecting the medical technology field. These publications, mailed to all AAMI members, are now available at AAMI.

IT Knowledge—A compilation of AAMI’s IT-related articles and guidance can now be accessed in one place—The Healthcare Information Technology Collection: A Biomed's Guide.

GUIDANCE FOR LOCAL BIOMEDICAL SOCIETIES

Society Membership—Biomedical societies can now join AAMI for a special membership rate
of $100 per year, which provides three members of the society with full AAMI membership benefits.

Online Resources—All biomedical societies can access a number of online resources developed by the TMC here.

A How-To Guide—This complimentary online publication, entitled How to Establish and Maintain a Local Biomedical Association, is available here.

Added Visibility—AAMI society members can now enjoy added exposure for their association in AAMI publications; on AAMI’s website, and at the AAMI Annual Conference, which features a tabletop area where societies can promote their meetings and special events.

Access to Speakers—Biomedical associations looking to find speakers in their area to attend their meetings can take advantage of the Online Speaker's Clearinghouse.

PROMOTING THE FIELD

Recognition—The TMC issues an annual proclamation to recognize biomedical equipment technicians, clinical engineers, and others who service and maintain medical technology.

Promoting the Field as a Career Option— A new print and online edition of the TMC's popular career brochure has been published to help educate students and others who are considering the field as a career option. Thousands of copies have been distributed by recruiters, schools, hospitals, and other employers around the world. Visit the Student Website!!

Strengthening Connections—Articles and advertisements have been published in other publications to strengthen the knowledge of other healthcare providers about the clinical engineering field.

The C-Suite—A regular column, called View from the Top, in AAMI's journal seeks to improve the flow of information between biomeds and CEs and healthcare executives.
