AAMI Releases New Edition of Career Brochure

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) has published a new edition of its popular career brochure used to encourage potential students to consider the biomedical field as a career option.

More than 9,000 copies of the brochure will be distributed to schools, healthcare facilities, biomedical societies, manufacturers and recruiters to attract more biomeds to the field. The publication is available to all individuals who request complimentary copies.

AAMI’s Technology Management Council (TMC) created the brochure as part of its effort to help promote the biomedical field and advance the profession. The four-page, four-color brochure contains information about what biomedical equipment technicians (BMETs) do, their skills and training requirements, salary and fringe benefits, and the long-term outlook for the field.

It also includes testimonials from a number of BMETs who talk about why they find the field so rewarding including the importance of job security, the value of helping patient safety, and the challenge and diversity of the work. The brochure also promotes the fact that U.S. News and World Report has selected the field as a top career choice for 2009.

The first version of the brochure, published in 2006, was so popular it required two printings. “This brochure has clearly met an important need of the community,” says David Francoeur, CBET, vice chairman of the TMC and vice president at ARAMARK.

The second edition includes updated information on starting and median salaries and the projected growth of the field. Targeted information for high school students and mid-life career changers has also been added.  The brochure was developed with the guidance and feedback from TMC members and educators in the field.

Those interested in obtaining a copy or copies of the brochure should contact Patrick Bernat at pbernat@aami.org. Please include your complete mailing address and the number of copies that you would like to receive. Click here for a copy in pdf.

The second edition of the brochure was made possible through the support of Stephens International Recruiting, Inc., which provides recruiting services for BMETs, quality radiology/imaging service engineers, field service engineers, managers, and other healthcare professionals.
