TMC Creates New Online Resource for Biomeds
The challenge of searching for a new job opportunity, a school in your area, or guidance on a Joint Commission standard just got easier.
AAMI’s Technology Management Council (TMC) has created a one-stop shop on the AAMI website called TMC Connect — www.aami.org/htmconnect — where you can find everything from job listings and certification information to IT resources and examples of best practices.
“Medical technology managers at all levels can really benefit from TMC Connect,” says Paul Kelley, CBET, manager of biomedical engineering for Washington Hospital in Fremont, CA and a TMC member. “The site is loaded with resources for people in the field, people looking to enter the field, and members of biomedical associations.”
TMC Connect includes technical resources such as IT information and best practices; professional resources, such as AAMI’s Career Center and links to biomedical societies across the country; and general resources, such as a clearinghouse of experts who are available to speak at industry functions.
“The TMC is offering a wealth of good, relevant information,” says Kelley. “This new site helps show the biomed community just how serious AAMI’s commitment is to continually improve benefits for all members.”
One resource of particular interest to biomedical/clinical engineering departments is the “Tool Kit,” which offers copies of service plans, policies, safety and marketing brochures, and more.
“With these tools, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel,” says Kelley. “So many departments spend countless hours developing policies and other documents. Now they can visit TMC Connect to obtain free sample documents that can save valuable time.”
The Best Practices section of TMC Connect includes each “Best Practices” column published in AAMI’s journal, BI&T, since 2004. Topics of these columns include disaster preparedness, strengthening staff abilities through continuing education, the benefits of equipment-swapping within health systems, and much more.
Other highlights include:
- Clinical engineering books
- Biomedical society information
- Clinical/biomedical engineering job descriptions
- Copies of brochures to promote the medical technology field
- Information on participating in humanitarian efforts.
The TMC — a 21-member group that works to provide benefits and services to biomedical equipment technicians, clinical engineers, and other medical technology professionals — celebrated its third anniversary in June.
