Four Named to AAMI's Technology Management Council

Leaders of AAMI’s Technology Management Council (TMC) have selected four clinical engineers and biomedical equipment technicians to join the TMC’s 21-member body.

The new members — Sue Finney, Gregory Herr, Chris Nowak, and Marcia Wylie — were selected from a competitive field based on their experience and expertise, involvement with AAMI, and geographical and employment diversity.

“Each new member brings unique knowledge and experiences, as well as a great deal of enthusiasm, to the table,” says TMC chair Ray Laxton “Each is a great fit to help us build on the success the council has already enjoyed.”

The new TMC members succeed Brian Poplin, Robert Moorey, Mike Carver, and Steve Haupt, whose terms expired in May.

Formed in 2004, TMC members provide services, benefits, and representation to technicians, engineers, and other medical technology professionals who are members of AAMI.

A CBET from Minnesota, Sue Finney is chief executive officer and business manager of ACT Services, a provider of biomedical technology services. Finney joins the TMC after having served terms as president, vice president, and secretary of the North Central Biomedical Association. She has nearly 20 years of experience in the medical technology field.

Finney has “a lot of integrity and she has such a vast knowledge of the field,” says TMC member Vickie Snyder, manager of biomedical engineering for Fairview Health Services of Minnesota.

Gregory Herr, BSEE, CCE, director of imaging/technology management for Masterplan Health Alliance, has been involved with AAMI since the 1970s. He has experience in biomedical engineering, hospital information technology, and imaging.

Greg brings a wealth of information, experience, and leadership to the TMC,” says TMC member Steve Yelton, program chairman for the information and engineering technologies divisions at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Christopher Nowak, CBET, regional director of clinical engineering for the Sisters of Mercy Health System/ St. John’s Health System of Springfield, MO, has more than 20 years of healthcare experience.

A past president of the Mid-Eastern Pennsylvania Clinical Instrumentation Society, Nowak is “very informative and likeable. His credentials are very impressive,” says TMC member Rich Ogg.

Marcia Wylie, director of biomedical engineering for Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA, entered the biomed field in 1977 as an intern at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Diego, and has been active in the profession ever since. Most recently, she served as chair of the California Medical Instrumentation Association (CMIA) in 2006.

“Marcia will be a tremendous asset to the TMC,” says Paul Kelley, TMC member and biomedical engineering manager at Washington Hospital in Fremont, CA. “She always maintains a positive outlook, and her staff really enjoy working for her. She is excited about what the TMC has accomplished and is eager to begin contributing.”
