National Coalition for Infusion Therapy Safety

The Unique Goal

The AAMI Foundation's National Coalition for Infusion Therapy Safety is made up of clinicians, industry partners, researchers, and national patient safety organizations.  This initiative addresses ongoing patient safety issues identified in 2010 at the AAMI/FDA Infusion Device Summit:

  • Improving drug library compliance
  • Reducing non-actionable pump alarms
  • Promoting multiple-line education

Co-Convening Organizations

The work of the AAMI Foundation National Coalition for Infusion Therapy Safety is intended to be a helpful resource for healthcare delivery organizations, so that every organization does not have to reinvent the wheel or start their infusion-therapy safety work from scratch. It does not constitute legal, regulatory, operational, or procedural advice, nor does it constitute a standard of care. It is essential that each healthcare delivery organization assess the material in the context of its own organizational needs, culture, technology, and priorities.
