Committee Central FAQs

Quick Start Guide for Committee Members and Liaisons

1. Read the copyright terms and conditions of the Committee Central site.

2. Go to Committee Central home page and log in. You will automatically be taken to My Committees.

3.If you are only on ISO or IEC committees, skip to #4. If you are on AAMI committees, review the information indicating whether you serve as an independent expert or represent a company or institution on the committee. During the review, please check that the information is complete and current for each of your committee assignments, and that it has been verified within the last 12 months as required by AAMI procedures. To verify or make changes, select from the following four options for each committee:

  • If information concerning whom you represent is correct and up-to-date, you need not check any boxes.
  • If information concerning whom you represent is correct but the verification is out of date, check the box in the "Verify" column.
  • If information concerning whom you represent is missing or has changed (e.g., you have changed employers or your interest category has changed from user to producer), per AAMI procedures you must reapply to the committee. Check "Reapply" and after you submit the verification form via the Internet, be sure to also complete and return a committee membership application form to AAMI.
  • If you are no longer interested in serving on a committee, check the "Delete" column.

If you want all of your verification dates to be the same, you can verify committees before they come due. However, please refrain from submitting verification of data that are complete and up-to-date so that staff can focus its attention on records that truly need to be changed.

Follow the on-screen instructions to review your verification selections and, if satisfied with your changes, submit same to AAMI. Please note that owing to the many procedural aspects involved, this is not a live connection to the AAMI database. Your verification information is submitted to the AAMI standards department via email and you should expect two to three business days for these to be entered and reflected at the Committee Central site.

4.Take a moment to check your contact information (from drop-down navigation box in upper right-hand corner of My Committee page) and submit updates as necessary. It is especially important that Standards has a working email address so that you will receive e-mail notice when new working documents are posted to one of your committees.

5.Explore! From My Committees, click on the name of one of your committees to go to that committee home page, or use the navigation drop-down box in the upper right-hand corner to go to other areas of Committee Central. Logging in determines what working documents you have access to; however, all committee home pages are available to all visitors.

Site Description

Committee Central (home page) - Includes login area for committee members and liaisons, a link to Terms of Use for the site, a link to a list of committees covered by the site (intended primarily for members of the public), and a link to the Standards home page, which also serves as the Committee Central Reference Library.

Browse Committees - Includes three ways to find a committee's home page - by parent committee (drop-down list), free-form search by committee number or name, or the option to see a complete list of all committees covered by the site.

Committee-Specific Home Pages - Each committee that is administered by AAMI has its own home page. These include basic information for members as well as interested parties such as the AAMI staff contact, identification of the secretariat, and whether the committee is active or disbanded. For committees that are administered by AAMI, a roster showing name, affiliation, and position is included unless the committee has been disbanded. (NOTE: For privacy reasons, AAMI does not provide detailed contact information.) For committees that AAMI does not administer, only the U.S. representative(s) that were nominated by AAMI to the committee are listed.

Committee home pages also include information about the next meeting of the committee and a list of projects (final and in development) assigned to the committee. Projects are categorized by type of assignment (authoring a document, voting on a document as the primary consensus body, and/or in the case of AAMI committees, developing US consensus positions on international standards). Documents may be listed more than once if a committee has multiple assignments relating to that document. Clicking on a document title will take you to a more complete description of the document as it appears in the AAMI database.

The other main aspect of committee home pages is a link to the committees' working document areas. Any interested party can view the list; however, with the exception of documents that have been made available to the general public, only committee members and liaisons who have logged into the Committee Central site will see a link that gives them the ability to view or download working documents.

Reference Library (Standards home page) - This consists of several linked pages that provide brief descriptions of the AAMI standards program and related products as well as links to resource documents such as the AAMI Standards Program Policies and Procedures Manual, committee membership application forms, and public reviewer comment forms. Also includes links to other areas of the AAMI Web site pertaining to standards products and services.

First Time Users/FAQ - Includes information to help first-time users navigate the site as well as answers to Frequently Asked Questions

My Committees - After logging in, committee members and liaisons will go to their own personal list of committee assignments, showing the committee name, the position(s) they hold on each, and who they represent (according to AAMI records). For AAMI committees, the page also includes the date that representation information was last verified and whether that verification has expired. (This relates to AAMI policies and procedures and is marked "N/A" for committees or positions to which the verification rule does not apply). Clicking on a committee name from this page will take you to the committee page, so committee members and liaisons should consider this their primary navigation tool to their committees as well as a means for fulfilling annual verification requirements.

Notes:
(1) My Committees does not include ex officio liaison positions (people who have access to working documents not appear on the AAMI committee roster.)
(2) The company/institution primary representative to AAMI, or the individual, can verify representation. Information from the primary representative takes precedence over information from the individual if there are discrepancies.

Apply/Reapply to a Committee - An on-line application form that can be used by anyone interested in joining an AAMI technical committee, working group, or US technical advisory group or sub-group that AAMI administers on behalf of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or its US National Committee (USNC). Committee members who need to reapply because of a change in whom they represent on a committee also can use this form. Membership on AAMI committees that serve an administrative or coordinating function and membership on international working groups is by nomination/invitation rather than application. These types of committees therefore do not appear in the drop-down list that is part of the on-line application. Applications in both WORD97 and PDF formats are also available through the Reference Library.

Update Contact Information (committee members only) - Committee members and liaisons who have logged in can check the contact information that AAMI has on record for them by going to this area. Corrections to name, title, address, phone, fax, or email can be made online and submitted via the Internet. Please be sure to review your contact information when you first visit the site as well as anytime you move, change your email address, etc. Note that you can only see your own information, as determined by your login ID and password. Therefore, it is important that you do not share your ID/password with others, not only to ensure there is no unauthorized access to copyrighted material, but also to ensure your own privacy. (AAMI members who are not on any committees other than in an ex officio liaison capacity can view their contact information/make corrections via the Members-only area of the AAMI Web site.)

Navigating the Site

Most Committee Central pages have a drop-down box in the upper right-hand corner that can be used to move to various areas of the site. In some areas, you need to use your browser's back arrow to return to the previous page, for example if you have gone to a working group home page via Browse Committees by parent committee, and wish to return to the complete list of the parent's working groups. To return quickly to the Committee Central home page from other areas of the site, you can click on the Committee Central logo. To go to Committee Central from other areas of the AAMI Web site or vice versa, use the links at the top or bottom of the page.

Navigating to specific committee home pages:

Committee members and liaisons (other than ex officio liaisons)
After logging in you will go directly to My Committees. If you are on more than one committee, use this as your main navigation page. If you want to visit other committee pages, use Browse Committees. If you jumped from a committee page to some other page, you can also use your browser's back arrow to return to the previous committee page you were visiting.

Ex officio liaisons
After logging in you will go directly to My Committees. However, this list only includes specific member and liaison appointments (i.e., people who appear on the committee roster) and excludes ex officio liaisons. For example, members of an AAMI technical committee also have access to documents of their working groups (and vice versa). However as a member of the parent committee, your list of assignments will only show that committee and any working groups that you are a member of or hold a specific liaison appointment to. In this case, use My Committees for your main navigation page, but use Browse Committees to explore the work of other working groups.

If all of your committee positions are ex officio, My Committees will be blank. Use Browse Committees as your main navigation page. If you jumped from a committee page to some other page, you can also use your browser's back arrow to return to the previous committee page you were visiting.

General public
Use Browse Committees as your main navigation page. If you jumped from a committee page to some other page, you can also use your browser's back arrow to return to the previous committee page you were visiting.

Viewing or Downloading Working Documents

Icons - Icons are used to identify whether a document is available to the general public or can only be viewed by a member or liaison (including ex officio liaisons) to the committee.

Formats - Provided that a document is (a) publicly available or (b) you have logged into the Committee Central site and have access to a document by virtue of being a member or liaison to the committee, the format(s) in which the document is available will appear as a hyperlink. Most documents are available in Portable Document Format (*.pdf) only. Certain items such as ballot forms that are intended to be completed and returned by committee members also are available in Microsoft WORD97 format (*.doc) for those members who have the necessary software to be able to use the WORD version. In order to view PDF files, you must have the free software Adobe® Acrobat® Reader™ . (Click here to download Adobe Acrobat Reader)

View or Download - To view a document, left-click on the format link. To copy the document to your computer, right-click on the format and then select "Save Target As" from the pop-up box.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is a committee roster blank or contains only a few experts from the US?

See Site Description, Committee Specific Home Pages.

I see a list of working documents but I can't open any of them.

Most documents are restricted to current committee members and liaisons (including ex officio liaisons) of assigned committees, and only if they are logged into the Committee Central area. If you are experiencing problems, first make certain that you have logged in. (Forget your password?)

I have access to "restricted" documents of committees of which I am not a member.

Access to working documents is extended to ex officio liaisons. For example, members of an AAMI technical committee can view documents of all of that committee's working groups and vice versa. More information on who can access what in an ex officio capacity is included in the copyright terms and conditions statement for the Committee Central site.

When I click on "Reference Library" it takes me to the AAMI "Standards" page.

Committee Central's Reference Library is identical to the AAMI Standards homepage.

When I preview my changes to AAMI committee verification information prior to submitting to AAMI, the "last date verified" is not updated.

Information at the Committee Central Web site is generated every working day from AAMI databases and uploaded to the Internet, but is not a live link to AAMI databases. This gives staff time to review changes and ensure that they meet procedural requirements of AAMI, ISO, or IEC as appropriate. Therefore, when you submit changes via the Web site, you are only providing instructions that need to be implemented and need to allow at least two to three working days for those changes to be input and then reflected in Committee Central.

My password doesn't work.

First, make certain you have entered your login ID and password. The second-most common problem is that all of your committee memberships have been terminated at the request of the primary representative to the company, organization, country, etc. that you represented, or in the case of ex officio liaison positions, your membership on the corresponding body has terminated.

If you need more help in identifying a problem, e-mail standards@aami.org.
