Third Generation Input/Output

8B/10B

A data encoding and transmission scheme patented by IBM used to connect IBM's mainframe computers to front-end processors. Essentially 8 data bits are sent in 10 bits. It provides error detection; frame delimiting, that is, you can tell where the frame markers and where the data is inside the frame. It also provides an integrated serial clock to synchronize the frame bits to a clock signal, even if many consecutive 1's or 0's are sent and the sender has a slightly different transmission rate or clock phase.

802.11 IEEE 802.11 is a set of standards for wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication, developed by IEEE.
