An Introduction to UNIX and Networking

This CD enables medical technology professionals to learn the basics of UNIX® software and networking. It focuses on the basic commands and tools of UNIX by engaging users to learn in an entertaining way.

UNIXKnowing UNIX can help you:

  • Set up and maintain workstations and other computer systems
  • Diagnose software problems
  • Log onto other computers over the local area network, allowing some tasks to be performed without the need to move between computers

This UNIX CD is mainly designed for those with little or no UNIX experience and those who find themselves working with UNIX systems or transferring images. It can also provide guidance to IT personnel with PC experience but no UNIX experience.

"The focus of this CD is to create activities that challenge you to master these skills," said author Jeffrey Mann, BSEE, BSCS, an instructor in Waukesha, WI. Activities lead the user through a variety of exercises, simultaneously learning UNIX and networking commands.

This UNIX material uses the Hieroglyphic Software Package, which was created with Visual Basic and has a graphical user interface. It combines UNIX and networking into a single package.
