Educational Outreach Program

UPDATE: Orbis Expands Sponsorships

Ismael Cordero, ORBIS

"A subscription to an excellent publication such as BI&T is a wonderful resource for biomedical engineering professionals and ORBIS is proud to be a part of this sponsorship program."

Ismael Cordero, Healthcare Technology Specialist, ORBIS

"This program will be of great value to expand the educational resources available to medical technology professionals around the world."

Antonio Hernandez, BI&T Editorial Board member and Regional Advisor for the Pan American Health Organization

The Educational Outreach Program provides AAMI's peer-reviewed journal, Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology (BI&T), to medical technology professionals around the world who are in need of educational material but may not have the financial resources to purchase such publications.

BI&T is a top rated journal of the medical device field; mailed bimonthly to more than 6,000 influential professionals who develop, manage, and use medical devices and services. The publication features practical troubleshooting columns, research, career guidance, technology trends, product news, and much more.

  • Who can apply for a complimentary subscription to BI&T?
Schools around the world, and institutions and associations in developing nations, can apply to participate in the program. Complimentary subscriptions are available contingent on sponsorship funding.
  • How can I apply for a complimentary subscription? Please e-mail Susan Gillespie at sgillespie@aami.org; stating your name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, the number of copies you would hope to receive, and a brief description about why the educational material would be helpful to you. For questions, call (703) 525-4890, ext. 225.
  • Who pays for the subscriptions?
The publisher of BI&T - Alliance Communications Group - provides subscriptions at a generous discount and sponsoring organizations and businesses help subsidize the remaining amount.
  • How can I become a sponsor and how much will it cost?
To inquire about sponsorships, please contact Steve Campbell at scampbell@aami.org or at 703-525-4890, ext. 241. Various sponsorships options are available, so costs vary.
  • Who is currently sponsoring the program and where is the publication being distributed?
ORBIS International - a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving eyesight - helped launch the program by funding a 16-month subscription to BI&T to medical technology professionals in 12 countries. The subscriptions will be sent to a number of hospitals and universities in countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, and Peru.
  • Why is ORBIS taking part in the program?
"Access to up-to-date information is critical for biomedical engineers and equipment technicians. However, subscriptions to journals and other sources of information are not feasible for most institutions given the lack of budgetary resources," says Ismael Cordero, Healthcare Technology Specialist at ORBIS.
