ARAMARK’s Poplin Resigns to Join Medical Staffing Network
Brian Poplin, a biomedical equipment technician (BMET) who worked his way up to become president of ARAMARK Healthcare Technologies, has left the company to join Medical Staffing Network (MSN) as president and chief operating officer. Poplin will start his new position April 19, relocating to Boca Raton, FL.
“This is an exciting opportunity and one that I am very much looking forward to getting under way,” Poplin, said in an e-mail that he sent to family, friends, and colleagues.
Calling himself “a very lucky person,” Poplin said he was grateful for his 18-year career at ARAMARK and saluted a team that was “well positioned for tremendous success in the future.”
ARAMARK officials returned the praise and wished him well.
“His new position outside our organization presented an opportunity for Brian to take on a new challenge and to advance some of his personal career goals. We are excited for him,” said ARAMARK spokesman Chris Collom.
His new employer was quick to highlight his achievements.
“In his tenure at Aramark, Brian excelled at completing several strategic acquisitions and their subsequent successful integrations,” Bob Bunker, MSN chairman and chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement. “He was also instrumental in building high performance teams who boosted ARAMARK’s brand in the worldwide healthcare industry. We are excited to have such an outstanding individual join our team.”
Poplin, who joined ARAMARK as a BMET in 1994, eventually led a team of more than 1,600 employees and saw annual revenues of more than $500 million.
Poplin’s departure comes as ARAMARK is moving ahead with plans to relocate its ReMedPar business to its Charlotte, NC headquarters. The change will take place over the next year, and the company has plans to create a “world class center,” according to Larry Hertzler, vice president of operations support at ARAMARK Healthcare Technologies. The plans involve a large renovation, and the center will allow for hands-on training and video conferencing.
ReMedPar currently is located in Goodlettsville, TN, just outside Nashville.
In an interview last year with AAMI, Poplin offered this advice for healthare technology management professionals looking to advance in their careers.
“My advice would be two-fold. The first is over-invest in your education, whether it is technical, business, or scientific education. Preparing yourself from an educational standpoint is something no one can take away from you,” he said. “The second piece is a willingness to try new things. For example, as a BMET, I sought out imaging service training to expand my technical skill and potential for advancement. The willingness to embrace new expectations is critical for folks who want to advance.”
