Application Deadline for Spring Biomed Certification
Exams Is Approaching

Are you a biomedical equipment technician looking to become certified? The application deadline for the spring certification exams is right around the corner—March 23.

The certification exams will be offered at more than 200 testing centers during the week of May 4 through May 11. There will be separate exams for certified biomedical equipment technician (CBET), certified radiology equipment specialist (CRES), and certified laboratory equipment specialist (CLES).

The certification program is run by the Board of Examiners for Biomedical Equipment Technicians, which operates under the direction of the United States Certification Commission (USCC) and the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (ICC).

Many experts believe that certification is one of the best ways for healthcare technology management professionals to demonstrate their expertise and their commitment to patient safety. Many healthcare facilities are making certification a job requirement.

Certification is good for three years, and AAMI membership is not required to take the exam. One certification is not a prerequisite for another, and each requires a separate, complete application and examination.

The exams include 150 multiple choice items in six main subject areas: anatomy and physiology; public safety in the healthcare facility; fundamentals of electricity and electronics; healthcare technology function and operation; healthcare technology problem solving; and healthcare information technology.

AAMI, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, is a nonprofit organization founded in 1967. It is a diverse community of nearly 7,000 healthcare technology professionals united by one important mission—supporting the healthcare community in the development, management, and use of safe and effective healthcare technology.
