Even while juggling holiday schedules and year-end responsibilities, members of the healthcare technology community found time to get in the spirit of the season and help others.
Giving children a reason to smile was a big goal of many hospital and companies, who contributed to toy drives.
Members of the GE Healthcare biomed group in central Houston brought toys to their holiday party this year. “I know it is small, but we do believe in the spirit of giving here in Texas,” said Don Armstrong, a biomedical equipment technician.
The North Texas Biomedical Association also rounded up toys, which will be distributed to kids hospitalized at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.
“The toy donations reflect the biomed commitment to community and spread a little cheer to children who must celebrate the holidays in the hospital,” said Carol Wyatt, a manager of Biomedical Technology Services with Baylor Health Care System in Dallas.
Alpha Source, Inc., a multi-vendor medical equipment parts distributor in Milwaukee, donated 100 shoeboxes filled with gifts to Operation Christmas Child, which will distribute them to kids in need. The shoeboxes included items such as dolls, t-shirts, books, crayons, calculators, and noisemakers.
“This project has brought our employees and local business together,” said Norine Carlson-Weber, president of Alpha Source. The company also donated donating $1,000 towards toys for Toys for Tots of Milwaukee.
At AAMI headquarters in Arlington, VA., staff members also contributed to a local Toys for Tots drive. The staff collected 50 toys, and one anonymous staffer then went on a spending spree, buying an additional $200 worth of toys and placing them under the office Christmas tree. All the toys have been donated.
As that staffer said in his/her note with the gifts, “Happy Holidays!”
