Deadline Nears for Scholarship Donation Match

Until the end of this month, donations to the AAMI Foundation’s Scholarship Program are being doubled.

ScholarshipThe AAMI Board of Directors is matching all donations to the scholarship program up to a cumulative total of $25,000 in a continued effort to provide more scholarships to students studying to become biomedical equipment technicians and clinical engineers.

“This is an opportunity for all of us to have a meaningful impact in helping the next generation of biomeds and engineers,” said Dave Francoeur, chair of AAMI’s Technology Management Council (TMC). “The fact is the profession is aging, and the needs in healthcare are growing. So we need to do everything we can possible, to help attract more qualified students to the field. This scholarship program is one important way to do that.”

Each year, the program awards two, $2,500 scholarships to students studying to become biomedical equipment technicians and clinical engineers. The 2012 scholarship winners were Avinash Konkani, a student pursuing his PhD in systems engineering at Oakland University; and Robin Cady, a biomedical engineering technology student at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

To date, the scholarship program has awarded six scholarships, but the needs far exceed the funds available to make the program self-sustaining. To date, nearly $300,000 has been raised—$200,000 short of the $500,000 goal.

“Whatever you can do to help would be sincerely appreciated,” added Francoeur. “If your company can make a corporate donation, that will have a significant impact; and individual donations are incredibly important. They add up quickly and they demonstrate the huge support this program has in the healthcare technology management community.”
