Healthcare IT Organization Shuts Down

The National Alliance for Health Information Technology (NAHIT) is ceasing operations on September 30.

The organization was founded in 2002 by leaders from pharmaceutical companies and industry organizations in an effort to advocate the use of information technology (IT) in healthcare, according to a press release on the organization.

NAHIT Chief Operating Officer Jane Horowitz says that action in the healthcare sector has shifted from education about healthcare IT to implementing healthcare IT, and other organizations are better positioned to help providers with implementation.

NAHIT was a co-founder of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) and developed an interoperability definition.
