First Call Duties Paper Up for Review
The Clinical Engineering/Information Technology (CE-IT) Community is now accepting public comments on a draft document designed to help healthcare organizations assign first call duties for healthcare networking issues.
The CE-IT Community’s Working Group 4 produced the document, which will be available for public review until Aug. 28, 2009.
Traditionally, clinical engineering has supported medical devices, and IT supported network servers, personal computers (PC) and more. But as more medical devices become connected to networks, the decision on which department to call for technical support becomes muddied.
The document walks an organization through the creation of a medical device support plan, which includes the roles and responsibilities of both clinical engineering and IT.
The CE-IT Community is a collaboration among AAMI, the American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE), and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
