Hospitals Must Help Fight Climate Change
The World Health Organization (WHO) is urging hospitals, which along with their emergency vehicles are major polluters, to help fight against climate change.
A report from the WHO says the amount of energy produced by hospitals and healthcare centers is contributing to more asthma cases and respiratory illness, and a higher number of emergency hospital visits, according to Reuters News.
The report adds that the health sector’s use of electricity adds more than $600 million per year in direct health costs and more than $5 billion in indirect costs, Reuters News says.
