ARLINGTON, VA—Four respected leaders in the medical technology management field have been appointed to the Editorial Board of Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology (BI&T), the bi-monthly, peer-reviewed journal of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). The newly selected members include Ed Snyder, CBET; Izabella Gieras, CCE; Manny Roman, CRES; and Gregory Herr, CCE. Each will bring their expertise to help chart the direction and ensure the quality of the publication, which is dedicated to the developers, managers, and users of medical instrumentation and technology. Izabella Gieras, a past president of the American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE), has contributed to numerous articles and manuscripts on medical technology management over the years, and has presented at more than 20 industry-related conferences. “Clinical engineering is a diverse and dynamic field. I joined the BI&T Editorial Board to support our readers’ interests in learning more about it and other important healthcare topics,” says Gieras Gregory Herr, CCE, a veteran of 33 years in the clinical engineering field, currently works for MasterPlan, Inc./Clinical Engineering for Health Alliance of Cincinnati, OH, as director of imaging and technology management. He is also an adjunct faculty member and program advisor for the biomedical engineering technology program at Cincinnati State Community and Technical College. A longtime AAMI member, Herr has presented at AAMI’s Annual Conference numerous times years and has been a member of AAMI’s Technology Management Council since 2007. Manny Roman, CRES, has become an industry fixture in the 16 years since he formed his company, DITEC—which instructs students in the servicing and management of MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and other imaging equipment. Roman’s technology career dates back to the 1970s, when he worked with and taught radar technology in the U.S. Army. He subsequently conducted equipment training for a variety of medical technology companies, and started DITEC in 1992. “I am pleased to contribute in any way I can to the enhancement of the medical instrumentation service professional, and to the advancement of this great and vital industry,” says Roman. “I look forward to working more closely with my colleagues and to participating in this excellent publication.” Ed Snyder, CBET, has been a member of the biomedical instrumentation department at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for the past 25 years, and has worked in the field for nearly 30 years. He has previous experience on the BI&T Editorial Board, and is pleased to rejoin the group. “In the recent past, my job only afforded me time to participate as an instructor for the annual BMET certification review course,” says Snyder. “But our new department director here at Thomas Jefferson believes our involvement in the education of biomeds to be vital, and he enthusiastically supports the new editorial work I plan to undertake.” Also, Bob Stiefel, CCE, director of clinical engineering with the University of Maryland Health System whose term as Chair of AAMI’s Board of Directors expired in June, will serve as the new Chair of the BI&T Editorial Board. Stiefel replaces Mike Capuano, CBET, whose term as Chair of the Editorial Board expired in June.
