Joint Commission Seeks Nominees for Eisenberg Awards

Until April 14, 2008, the National Quality Forum (NQF) and The Joint Commission will be accepting nominees for the 2008 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards.

These annual awards recognize the achievements of individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to improving patient safety and healthcare quality, and individuals and organizations who, through a specific initiative or project, have made an important contribution to patient safety and healthcare quality in the areas of research or system innovation.  

The award categories include:

  • Individual Achievement—Nominees will have demonstrated exceptional leadership and scholarship in patient safety and healthcare quality through a substantive body of work.
  • Initiative/Project-Related Achievements—Nominees may be individuals or organizations who have made a specific and significant contribution to patient safety and healthcare quality through:
    • Research—Eligible projects are those that involve the scholarly or scientific investigation of patient safety or quality measurement, reporting or improvement. Eligible projects must have clear implications for improving patient safety and healthcare quality beyond the setting where the study was performed.
    • Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality at the Local or Organizational Level—Same as above but focused on projects or initiatives that are not national or regional in scope and impact.
