Sacred Heart Medical Center-located in Spokane, Washington-is a
nonprofit, Catholic hospital founded by the Sisters of Providence
in 1886.
With 623 beds, Sacred Heart is the largest tertiary care center
between Seattle and Minneapolis. It offers a wide array of medical
services reflective of today's health care advances, including one
of the country's leading cardiovascular centers and a Children's
Hospital. Other centers of excellence include oncology, neuroscience
and trauma services, organ transplant, psychiatry, nephrology, and
a Women's Health Center, to name a few.
Sacred Heart employs 4,000 health care professionals and support

specialists and primary care doctors. Volunteers---the backbone
of many hospital services---include 400 women, men and young people.
Sacred Heart was founded on the Christian principle of providing
care with respect for the dignity of each person, especially the
poor and needy. It is sponsored by Providence Services and is affiliated
with a network of health care and educational facilities throughout
the western states of Washington, Alaska, California, Oregon and
