Memorial Hospital of South Bend, a not-for-profit founded in 1894 to serve the needs of 'unfortunate young women,' has expanded that mission to serve the needs of the community far beyond the confines of the hospital itself. What began as a three-room hospital has evolved into a comprehensive regional referral center licensed for 526 beds, still at the heart of what has grown to become Memorial Health System.

Services affiliated with the Hospital and System cover the health spectrum from wellness and prevention, to diagnostics, trauma care, treatment and rehabilitation. Among them are Memorial Health & Lifestyle Center, Healthworks! Kids' Museum, Memorial Home Care, Memorial Medical Group, occupational health, urgent care centers and community clinics, Community Health Alliance (insurance program), and Memorial Leighton Center for Senior Health.
