Water for the Reprocessing of Medical Devices: A Review of Key Aspects of the New AAMI TIR34
The quality of water used for reprocessing medical devices can have a major impact on both the instruments as well as the patient these instruments are used on. AAMI TIR34:2007 — Water for the reprocessing of medical devices is the first North American document to try to bring some rationalization to the approach that should be used by healthcare facilities to ensure they have taken into consideration water quality issues when establishing reprocessing protocols for reusable medical devices. This webinar examines the approach that healthcare facilities can follow to ensure the appropriate water quality is being used in their processes.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The webinar provides an overview of why water quality is a significant yet often ignored issue in reprocessing of medical devices. At the conclusion of the program, participants are able to: List adverse patient outcomes related to in appropriate water quality; describe the four main steps that a healthcare facility should follow to ensure water quality is appropriately assessed; list and describe the four main water qualities used in healthcare; describe what water quality is appropriate for the various stages in medical device reprocessing; and outline the ongoing monitoring necessary for the four water qualities.
