Ultrapure Dialysate for Hemodialysis and Related Therapies, AAMI TIR43:2011
ANSI/AAMI/ISO 23500:2011 makes a recommendation that ultrapure dialysate should be used for routine hemodialysis. This is not currently the standard of practice in the U.S. The objective of TIR43:2011 is to provide dialysis clinics with background information to understand the rationale for the inclusion in ISO 23500 of this recommendation and useful strategies for implementing practices to allow provision of ultrapure dialysate. The premise for the recommendation is that improving the microbiological quality of dialysate results in reduced chronic micro-inflammation and thus a reduction in the long-term of effects of inflammation and associated morbidities in dialysis patients.
This webinar explores clinical and other data supporting the premise and point out where the data is controversial. While the best interest and well-being of dialysis patients is important to all dialysis practitioners, implementing ultrapure dialysate therapy requires significant changes in practice. Facility personnel should have sufficient information to understand what the change would mean and be able to make informed and appropriate decisions regarding implementing this change in therapy delivery.
