NFPA 99: What Clinical Engineers and BMETs Need to Know

You won’t want to miss this overview of changes to NFPA 99 Standard for Healthcare Facilities and how they will affect you.  Alan Lipschultz, AAMI’s representative to NFPA 99 for 35 years and chair of the NFPA 99 Medical Equipment Committee, describes major changes to the document. The document will define operating rooms as wet procedure locations, therefore requiring isolated power unless a risk assessment finds otherwise.  The CE/BMET community needs to know why requirements for leakage current testing have been greatly relaxed.  Alan also explains how NFPA 99 is becoming a “Code,” similar to the National Electrical Code, which means that the document is meant to be adopted into local law.

  WHO SHOULD PURCHASE
Instruction is designed for clinical technology managers, clinical and biomedical engineers, and other healthcare technology professionals dealing with electrical safety and facilities issues.
