Using Rigid Sterilization Containers in the Healthcare Setting

Wednesday, July 24, 2013 – 12:00 am –1:30 pm Eastern

Rigid sterilization containers for surgical instruments have been available in the United States for nearly three decades. In more recent years, rigid sterilization containers along with containment devices have become a staple in central service departments. With their ability to provide cost-effective, reusable, rigid packaging for sterilization processing, storage, transportation, and presentation of surgical instruments and other medical devices, these containers are true workhorses at any hospital. Thus, rigid sterilization containers and containment devices are a very important part of the patient safety and cost-control equations.

With such widespread use comes a concern over their ability to perform as needed. A new update to the AAMI standard, Containment devices for reusable medical device sterilization, 2nd ed. (ANSI/AAMI ST77:2013), was recently published.  The standard serves as a guide to device manufacturers of rigid sterilization containers and containment devices.  As a standard for manufacturers, the update provides reference information for ST79 as well as providing a standard for manufacturers of rigid sterilization containers and containment devices.

This webinar will cover best practices when using rigid sterilization containers based on ST79, and will provide insight into the new ST77 that manufacturers will use when testing rigid sterilization containers.
