Interoperability
Interoperability is a popular word in the world of medical devices, and many believe it is the answer to some of healthcare's most difficult problems. While medical devices play a critical role in capturing medical data, they are often unable to communicate with other devices.
AAMI and the FDA convened a summit to identify and address challenges associated with medical device interoperability, on October 2-3, 2013, in Herndon, VA. Two hundred sixty-six people from across healthcare attended this two-day event and delved into the complex issues surrounding interoperability and identified steps to be taken to improve device interoperability and enhance patient safety.
These issues and the steps identified are contained in the Summit Report: Medical Device Interoperability: A Safer Path Forward
