Abstract
The report from the October 4–5 multidisciplinary “all hands on deck” summit highlights clarion themes and priority issues for improving patient safety from infusion devices. The clarion themes are:
- Standardize systems and processes for reporting, aggregating, and analyzing infusion device incidents.
- Improve the integration of infusion devices with information systems and drug libraries.
- Improve management of multiple infusions.
- Mitigate use errors for infusion devices.
- Reconcile challenges and differences in the use environments of infusion devices.
The report also provides an update on the infusion system safety council’s progress in developing a comprehensive, collaborative, and multidisciplinary action plan to tackle the priority issues.
