Abstract
Knowledge is power—and in the hospital setting, increased knowledge of medication administration can empower clinicians from pharmacy to bedside to improve patient safety and outcomes.
At Loma Linda University Medical Center, a 900-bed hospital in Loma Linda, Calif., clinicians supplement smart-pump technology with in-depth analysis to provide smarter and safer patient care. Several years ago, the facility implemented smart I.V. infusion pumps with a dose error reduction system (DERS). Last year, it upgraded the software to a custom drug library with enhanced dose-tracking software.
