Clinical Alarms Steering Committee

Mission Statement:

“To improve patient care through ensuring that only actionable alarm signals occur, enabling caregivers to respond effectively.”

Vision Statement:

By 2016, our vision is to:

  1. Reduce the number of irrelevant alarms by improvements to device alarm algorithms. The development of new algorithms will be facilitated by the development of a dataset which can be used to measures the performance of new alarm algorithms and parameters to demonstrate clinical efficacy and safety.
  2. Reduce the number of irrelevant alarms by having devices configured appropriately for that particular patient. This will be done through the development of evidence-based guidelines.
  3. Reduce the number of irrelevant alarms and increasing the number of relevant alarms by combining information from multiple data sources. This will be done through interoperability of clinical alarm systems.
  4. Make evidence-based guidelines and best practices widely available to support alarm system management.
