The AAMI Foundation’s primary mission is to serve public welfare and improve patient safety by fostering support and recognition for the advancement of medical technology. It does this through certification programs, recognition awards for excellence, and through various educational activities.

Dwight E. Harken Memorial Lecture

Each year, the AAMI Foundation and PSICOR support a lecture in honor of the work of Dr. Dwight E. Harken, one of AAMI’s founders and pioneer cardiovascular surgeon and device innovator. The lecture, which features the brightest and best in the medical technology field, is presented annually at the AAMI Conference & Expo.

Foundation Recognition for Excellence

The AAMI Foundation also recognizes individuals for their extraordinary role in improving public health care safety. The AAMI Foundation Awards recognize career achievement as well as superior work in medical instrumentation development, research, and applications, including engineering and related service.

Certification Programs

Certification demonstrates that healthcare professionals have the knowledge to ensure a safe, reliable healthcare environment. The AAMI Foundation provides leadership in public safety through its certification programs and oversight of the International Certification Commission (ICC) and the United States Certification Commission (USCC).

The Michael J. Miller Scholarship Program

This scholarship program will award scholarships to students aspiring to become biomedical equipment technicians and clinical engineers.
